01.02.2007 PLAY VIDEOS ON YOUR WII

Over the holidays my little sister convinced me to watch John Tucker Must Die on DVD. Imagine how angry it makes me to report that it is as terrible as expected, yet still much better than "The best spy movie of all time," Robert DeNiro's Good Shepherd. Needless to say, I won't be spending $8.50 on another movie any time soon. Instead I'll be watching videos on my Wii - hopefully your gaming resolutions for 2007 didn't involve abiding by the rules, because here's how to get around the whole lack of DVD support on the Wii.

First you need your movie on your hard drive in a DivX, Avi, MPG or MOV format. The best way to conver files into these formats would be the free program Virtual Dub. Or just cut the crap and hit up Zamzar, a free conversion site that's insanely easy to use. Once you've converted the file, all that's left to do it download the free program Wii Video 9, put the movie on an SD card(the bigger the better, but no larger than a 2GB card), insert the SD card into your Wii and go to the photo channel. And that's all you have to do, enjoy.

12.26.2006 COMPLETE TWILIGHT PRINCESS WALKTHROUGH

GameVideos has finally completed their complete video walkthrough of the entire Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess Nintendo Wii game. If you don't have the game and want to watch the game from beginning to end, then you'll have to sit through 51, yes - fifty one, different clips. The one above is just the first of the many. It sounds like an insanely long walkthrough, because it is, but if you just watch the first clip you'll notice there's plenty of fast forwarding, making it the quickest speed run you can find. There's also 2 narrators talking you through each scene and talking about the puzzles, gameplay, and characters. If you're interested in watching them all, or bookmarking them for if you get stuck in the game, then you can find them all on the left column here.

11.27.2006 ZELDA RETROSPECTIVES 1 - 6

Sigh . . . Thanksgiving's weekend of gaming bliss has come to an end and it's back to life's demands once again. Here's six videos to help you procrastinate for as long as possible. GameTrailers has assembled six videos that not only recap every Legend of Zelda game from the past, but it even attempts to put them in a plausible timeline to help us figure out where Twilight Princess might fit into everything. If you already know your Zelda games by heart then just skip to the 6th one for their chronological Zelda opinions, but every one of the videos is worth a watch. I finally got a Wii over the weekend and I'm dying to get home to play Twilight Princess some more, so this will just have to tide me over until later. (If you would rather just watch all six in a row without interruptions then hit up Google video.)

11.13.2006 1UP STAFF PRANKS EACH OTHER WITH WII

The 1UP/EGM staff recently got their Nintendo Wii, but instead of actually playing it like good game journalists they decided to prank the other staff members one by one. Watch as they  play a video tape of a Metroid game and hand the controller to their friends, convincing them that they're actually playing and it's just the wonky Wiimote that's over compensating their movements. Just as it starts to get old, they manage to convince one person that the Wii is playing a five year old PS1 game. And we trust these guys to review our games? Hmmmm.

Epic Games is showing the world how easy it is to make one of the most anticipated next gen games of all. Final Fantasy X cost over $32 million to make with a team size of over 100 people in just two years. Gears of War however has taken just as long to produce, but at only the price of $10 million and with the help of 20 - 30 people. And in case you've forgotten how damn amazing the game looks here are 4 new single and multiplayer gameplay videos for yuh: Movie 1, Movie 2, Movie 3, Movie 4.
