When I started watching this video for the Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: Rings of Fate game coming to DS at the end of the year in America, I expected to see a few character closeups, some gameplay, or maybe at least an inventory interface or two, but instead it's just Japanese dialogue for over a minute. Even if I could read what was being said, and even if some big part of the storyline was revealed, that's still a pretty lousy preview of your game Square Enix.
The Square Enix trailer above is a completely different story though. Of course it's a different story, it's Final Fantasy XII: Revenant Wings for DS, and its credits video is possibly the best thing I've ever seen on the DS so far. Which probably isn't fair - it's clearly a digitally manipulated scene with the video edited into it, as oppose to just taping the damn screen with a real camera. So don't expect it to look as crisp in the final product. Everything about it is sequenced as you'd expect from a kiddy Final Fantasy title: zoom ins on the characters, showing facial expressions to convey their emotions, panning shots of odd shaped airships, and action shots filled with animations to look at that go from one screen to the next. They even use the dual screens as different camera angles at times, to show the inside and outside of an area simultaneously. Those of you in Japan will get this game later this month, but an American release is still nowhere in sight.
