10.10.2006 Teenager Plays Video Game With His Mind
With a grid across his head to measure electrocortigraphic data, a 14 year old boy was undergoing tests for epilepsy using video games as the foundation of the experiment. Doctors set up the controls to respond to moving his tongue left or right, but once the connection was made they only had to tell him to think about moving his tongue to make his player move around in Space Invaders. How easy was it? The doctors said he learned "almost instantaneously," and in a short time he had already cleared two levels. Surely this kind of a setup isn't cheap and plausible for gamers to get ahold of, but then again, neither is the PS3. Maybe in another 10 years Nintendo's new gimmick will be that virtual reality helmet we've been craving since the disappointment of Virtual Boy years ago.
