10.24.2006 Richard Knaak author Q&A hints at Diablo 3

Diablo 3 has grown to be quite the Bigfoot, with people clinging to small shreads of evidence that Diablo 3 might still be alive. There'd be no reason not to make a third Diablo game, but Blizzard hasn't offered any concrete details of its existence in the past. Years ago it was discovered that Blizzard hired a chorus of people to start on the game's soundtrack, but years passed and our hopes died like dupes. Then, in the last year, Blizzard announced that besides their continual devotion to World of Warcraft, they are also working on 3 unknown titles, once again restoring our beliefs that a Diablo 3 does exist somewhere in the wilderness. But as always, the trail was lost and people became bitterly silent once again.

But today more small shreads of evidence have been found. Not a lead designer's footprint, not a demonic CEO's necromantic residue, but instead a Diablo book author has let a diabolic detail slip. When Richard A. Knaak was interviewed yesterday about his first of three Diablo books The Sin War: Birthright, he mentioned that his writings will be used for any future project, and that he isn't writing for a dead game.

Baal balls ablaze! Hopefully the Burning Crusade delay has to do with Diablo 3's amazingness being worked on around the clock, but I doubt we'll get much more info on its existence or inexistence until around the artist formally known as E3. Can you imagine how many millions of gamers Blizzard will be influencing daily on the net if WOW is joined by Diablo 3?
