05.31.2007 FIRST GUITAR HERO 3 GAMEPLAY VIDEOS
With Harmonix now owned by MTV and working on Rock Band, it was up to Neversoft to completely rebuild Guitar Hero for the third game. Luckily they didn't change much, but their adjustments are easy to notice. IGN got a chance to play the game at its current stage in development, and the first thing they noticed was that they sucked. A lot. Neversoft changed the timing sequence and they were strumming the notes at the wrong time for the first few games they played, although they said it didn't take long to readjust your movements. Furthermore, Neversoft also said they're still tweaking the timing issues.
IGN posted these gameplay videos and then pulled them down for some reason, but Arrogantics quickly managed to upload the "My Name is Jonas" video above and the "Slow Ride" video here. It's easy to see that the Star Power meter has changed, and that they've added a numerical note counter to the score interface to help players more. How do you like the changes so far? DO NOT WANT.
It doesn't look like they're making any 'improvements' - more like they're just making changes and calling them improvements. Why fix what isn't broken? Changing the look and feel of the game just because you can is stupid. Changing it because it offers a better user interface, maybe, but I can't see that this really does that in any significant capacity.
I don't own a guitar hero but I have played it quite a bit and I always found it relatively hard to read the information on the screen like my score and the point multiplier.
Ubisoft has clearly moved the displays closer to the fretboard in an attempt to alleviate the situation. So yes, the UI is better.
People are so incredibly resistant to change, even when it is beneficial.
Those crazy Arrogantics people. They're always uploading videos. Crazy.
Sish, you mean Neversoft. I personally don't mind the new changes, but I don't particularly like them either.
Although, if it doesn't take any time to get used to, perhaps I'm worried about nothing, but still. Going from Guitar Hero I to Guitar Hero II was easy as Mama's Apple Pie.
Who says it's beneficial? I don't like the dials being that close to the fretboard - I have no problems with where they're located now. I prefer them to be at a distance so that I'm not plagued by blinking, jumping lights and numbers right next to the finger combinations i'm focusing on.
Plus it leaves so much empty space around the rest of the screen - it's wasteful and it's not good design.
