05.09.2007 FOUR SPORE AND SEVEN YEARS AGO DELAY
It's been confirmed for PC and DS, and hinted at releasing for several other consoles, and we've even seen plenty of early and not so early gameplay demos, so how much longer must we wait?
EA is reporting a slight loss for the quarter. It expects profits for the year to fall short about ten cents, hitting a high of $1.20 as opposed to the expected $1.31. The company's share price was down 3% in extended trading yesterday. The reason for these adjustments? EA reluctantly announced that Spore has been delayed until Q2 2008. Electronic Arts said it had taken out Spore, a game where players build organisms from scratch, from its financial projections for the fiscal year ending in March 2008, adding that the game could be delayed until fiscal 2009.
Considering development for the game started in 2000, I'd say we deserve some type of update from Will Wright soon. It's hard to compare Spore to any other game, so I'll compare it to the universe instead. The light coming off a Spore projector screen during a presentation could travel to Alpha Centauri and back in 8.74 years. In other words, even light itself is getting bored with waiting. I sure as hell don't want to be the one who has to tell light that Will Wright still isn't done when it gets back, light can be such a B-hole. There, I finally got to use that joke, and can die a happy science geek now.
