05.09.2007 FOUR SPORE AND SEVEN YEARS AGO DELAY

It's been confirmed for PC and DS, and hinted at releasing for several other consoles, and we've even seen plenty of early and not so early gameplay demos, so how much longer must we wait?

EA is reporting a slight loss for the quarter. It expects profits for the year to fall short about ten cents, hitting a high of $1.20 as opposed to the expected $1.31. The company's share price was down 3% in extended trading yesterday. The reason for these adjustments? EA reluctantly announced that Spore has been delayed until Q2 2008. Electronic Arts said it had taken out Spore, a game where players build organisms from scratch, from its financial projections for the fiscal year ending in March 2008, adding that the game could be delayed until fiscal 2009.

Considering development for the game started in 2000, I'd say we deserve some type of update from Will Wright soon. It's hard to compare Spore to any other game, so I'll compare it to the universe instead. The light coming off a Spore projector screen during a presentation could travel to Alpha Centauri and back in 8.74 years. In other words, even light itself is getting bored with waiting. I sure as hell don't want to be the one who has to tell light that Will Wright still isn't done when it gets back, light can be such a B-hole. There, I finally got to use that joke, and can die a happy science geek now.

01.16.2007 BRIAN ENO SPORE SPOUNDTRACK CONFIRMED

The highly anticipated Spore game has been rumored to receive a soundtrack from the famous electronic musician Brian Eno, but it's now confirmed. Brian is known to many as "the father of modern ambient music," and has been creating music ever since the early 70's, including over 30 solo albums since his debut, as well as the famous startup sound for Windows 95.

Video game soundtracks can be a lot of fun, but Spore was one of the last games I thought I'd be excited over for its music. Spore is due out in the third quarter of 2007, but I wouldn't be surprised if it gets pushed back into early 2008. I'm sure Will Wright still has plenty of more eye opening tricks up his sleeve before we see this game on shelves.

12.05.2006 WILL WRIGHT ON COLBERT REPORT

Here's the video of Stephen Colbert from his show last night where he interviews Will Wright, the creator of the Sims series and the upcoming Spore game. Will sums up the two games as Sims being a spreadsheet for life, and Spore being a spreadsheet for a God. Describing Spore as a cross between evolution and intelligent design, Colbert and Wright agree on one thing - it will help keep kids from reading books. Wright gives a hint at when Spore will actually be out on PC: "Second half of next year." Not much else was revealed, but it was worth it to have Stephen Colbert tell him about his nerd-rection over Wright's games. It was no South Park W.O.W. episode, but it was cool to see Colbert supporting video games even more than he already has.

In other news - readers are telling me that today is a special day. Not only is today "Day of the Ninja," but the cosmos also squeezed in another holiday for December 5th - Repeal Day - the day in which Prohibition was ended. Without booze how would gamers like Will Wright ever get laid outside of the virtual world? And without ninjas where would the game industry be today? So stick your ninja sword up with one hand, and rise a manly pint of beer up with the other hand, and feel free to geek out and get drunk tonight to show respect.

11.29.2006 WILL WRIGHT ON COLBERT REPORT MONDAY

I always knew video games made Stephen Colbert horny, but now I finally have the proof. This week he geeked out on Wii Sports and now he's announced that Sims and Spore creator Will Wright will be on Comedy Central's The Colbert Report show on Monday, December 4. Any guesses on how he'll relate Will Wright's work to politics? Has Will Wright agreed to make a Stephen Colbert planet built entirely of Stephen Colbert bridges to put Venice to shame? I think it would be badass if he made the entire episode inside the Spore game, like how South Park had an entire episode devoted to World of Warcraft universe. I'll make sure to post it as soon as the video hits the web next week.

1. The Sims 2 Pets - Electronic Arts
2. Battlefield 2142 - Electronic Arts
3. Flight Simulator X Deluxe - Microsoft
4. World Of Warcraft - Blizzard
5. Flight Simulator X - Microsoft

7. Nancy Drew: Creature of Kapu Cave - Her Interactive
8. Age of Empires III: War Chiefs - Microsoft
9. The Sims 2 Glamour Life - Electronic Arts

It's a happy time for EA with 4 of the 10 games on the list belonging to them, but that's really nothing new to EA. Electronic Arts also just updated their EA Downloader service to "EA Link" that hopes to get more people to buy and download games online.
