12.19.2006 JOHN ROMERO ANNOUNCES NEW CPL FPS GAME
In the video above you'll see John Romero himself announcing to the gamer world that a new FPS is being created just for Cyberathlete Professional League gaming events. Headed by the experienced Tom Mustaine, the console and PC game will be the "ultimate FPS for team and solo matches." Using the id Software engine, it will be played used in future CPL tournaments. What will be mandatory for their events will surely reign across the country as a solid LAN game in the future even if you're not a professional gamer.
The game is called Severity and focuses on team versus team and one on one play modes and is expected to start game testing by the end of 2007. Severity will surely be big news as it continues to pop up again and again over the next year revealing more of the CPL's plans for the FPS. I don't see why the CPL needed their own game, but sure, why not. Instead of pro gamers getting their own stadiums to play in, we get our own special video games to play in. Sounds good to me.
