06.01.2007 HISTORY OF VIDEO GAMES IN FOUR MINUTES

(Click the area above to start video)

By now you guys should know I'll post anything that involves Bubble Bobble in any way, and it gets a shout out in this montage of the most memorable video games in the history of the industry. Spanning all genres of gameplay from 1972 to 2007, and pulling from several consoles and handhelds, there's easily a hundred different games that were included in the four minute video. So take out your notebooks and get ready to jot down a few time markers of games you don't recognize but want to know more about, and try to help each other figure out which games were which. The one that caught my eye was Out Of This World at 1:40 into the video. It always looked like an intriguing Super Nintendo game to me, but I never got around to playing it. Are there any games you didn't see that you think deserve to be on the list?

besides the games you'd expect to see on there, i was really glad to see flashback, out of this world, prince of persia, and two monkey island games. the first three had insane graphics for their times, especially flashback, and the monkey island games were unlike anything i had ever played back then. the only game i can think of that got snubbed was goldeneye. i know it wasn't the first fps, but it definitely helped break ground for fps multiplayer and spending ridiculous amounts of time unlocking things. getting invisibility in the archives on 007 was the most frustrating for me. stupid defense minister mishkin... i hate that guy. he's always standing in the wrong spot.

this video wouldn't work for me, but i saw it on collegehumor.  i assume that's who's flash player you have embedded here.  i've had problems with it in the past as well.  they really need to work on that flash player...

Holy jesus, I was surprised on how many Amiga titles were in that compilation. Also the SNES game "Out of this World" was originally from the Amiga aswell under the title "Another World". Pretty tricky game, has some interesting puzzles and great animation for its time.

Out of this World was bizarre.  I played it, but I feel like I was too young at the time to appreciate it.  I sucked at adventure games back then.

Kings Quest 1 with typing commands was so awesome, I remember drawing a map out for every scene in that game.  Don't forgot to stand on the north side of the rock when pushing it or else it will crush you!

I am overjoyed to see Serf City: Life is Fuedal (also known as The Settlers) tucked away in that montage. Half of the kids playing RTS games these days don't even realize this was one of the groudbreakers for the genre.
