01.31.2007 GODZILLA ON WII, SAINTS ROW ON PS3
Godzilla: Unleashed has been built from scratch by developer Pipeworks Software, and it's the third game in the series that began on the Gamecube in 2002. The game is also in development for DS and PSP, and the gameplay goals are still the same - to tear apart the city, but this time the destruction level of detail has been improved. You move around and jump with the nunchuk and attack with the Wiimote. The developers are excited to try out the new setup that allows up to four players to do two different actions at the same time with their different Wii controllers: "Godzilla can be walking in one direction, attacking with his claws in another, firing his weapon in a third direction, and swinging his tail at a rear target all at the same time. We're just focused on putting the maximum amount of control into the player's hands at all times." I don't know if I'd call that fun, sounds kind of hectic for a game that probably isn't going to be that rewarding to watch on screen. The interface seems pretty ugly too, you can see the other three new screenshots below.
In more exciting news, THQ has confirmed that Saints Row will be coming to the PS3 this Spring. Saints Row came out in August last year on Xbox 360 and managed to do decent for being a GTA knockoff game, selling over half a million copies in North America. The PS3 version will support players online, but no new or additional features have been announced yet.
