01.31.2007 GODZILLA ON WII, SAINTS ROW ON PS3

Godzilla: Unleashed has been built from scratch by developer Pipeworks Software, and it's the third game in the series that began on the Gamecube in 2002. The game is also in development for DS and PSP, and the gameplay goals are still the same - to tear apart the city, but this time the destruction level of detail has been improved. You move around and jump with the nunchuk and attack with the Wiimote. The developers are excited to try out the new setup that allows up to four players to do two different actions at the same time with their different Wii controllers: "Godzilla can be walking in one direction, attacking with his claws in another, firing his weapon in a third direction, and swinging his tail at a rear target all at the same time. We're just focused on putting the maximum amount of control into the player's hands at all times." I don't know if I'd call that fun, sounds kind of hectic for a game that probably isn't going to be that rewarding to watch on screen. The interface seems pretty ugly too, you can see the other three new screenshots below.

In more exciting news, THQ has confirmed that Saints Row will be coming to the PS3 this Spring. Saints Row came out in August last year on Xbox 360 and managed to do decent for being a GTA knockoff game, selling over half a million copies in North America. The PS3 version will support players online, but no new or additional features have been announced yet.

01.15.2007 RUMOR: SAINTS ROW COMING TO PS3

Patrick Klepek from 1UP brings word that Saints Row was listed under a PS3 EB Games section, then predicted the page would die, which it did. The next step is a bumped up press release that officially announces what we already know in a few weeks from now. Or EB Games just sucks, that's always a good possibility too. But the Grand Theft Auto look alike game that came out in August on Xbox 360 can't be selling too many new copies, bringing the game to a new console makes plenty of sense.

12.29.2006 BUGGY SAINT'S ROW: THE MUSICAL

Bitching about a game's bugs is my job, but seeing the complaints animated before you to award winning vocals makes the experience entirely more enjoyable. The video editing is perfect, the sound instruments subtly reinforce the lyrics, and it's sung as if it was truly a musical that just happens to be talking about Saint's Row. I knew I was in for a treat as soon as the first lyrics arrived with "Where's my fucking car?" and a video clip of a man riding in an invisible car with cops aiming guns at him. The video goes on to address plenty of other Saint's Row bugs in soprano style, but I won't ruin the rest. I think that's the first time I've laughed at a fart joke in years though.
