01.02.2007 PLAY VIDEOS ON YOUR WII

Over the holidays my little sister convinced me to watch John Tucker Must Die on DVD. Imagine how angry it makes me to report that it is as terrible as expected, yet still much better than "The best spy movie of all time," Robert DeNiro's Good Shepherd. Needless to say, I won't be spending $8.50 on another movie any time soon. Instead I'll be watching videos on my Wii - hopefully your gaming resolutions for 2007 didn't involve abiding by the rules, because here's how to get around the whole lack of DVD support on the Wii.

First you need your movie on your hard drive in a DivX, Avi, MPG or MOV format. The best way to conver files into these formats would be the free program Virtual Dub. Or just cut the crap and hit up Zamzar, a free conversion site that's insanely easy to use. Once you've converted the file, all that's left to do it download the free program Wii Video 9, put the movie on an SD card(the bigger the better, but no larger than a 2GB card), insert the SD card into your Wii and go to the photo channel. And that's all you have to do, enjoy.

nintendo could always partner up with a rental video company and offer the movies via wii online...just a thought

i mean, all these companies are touting their machines as the center piece to a household media center. offering movie rentals though their online service surely make this the case

Seems like a lot of work just to watch a video. Isn't just as easy to use the DVD player? I mean, I was like "Wow this is cool" when I used the internet channel on my Wii. But after 5 minutes of having to type via wii remote, i just went to my computer to use the internet.

Same thing here. It's cool, but not viable.
