05.10.2007 CENTURY SUTRA 1688 PDA GAME PAD

The Century Sutra 1688 isn't for sale in America right now, but it comes with a game pad for mobile gaming that's a completely different story from forcing gamers onto cell phones. You can either clip the PDA into the game pad or just connect the controller with a cable if you think it would make you look any less goofy. Using a microSD card, the picture shows how easy it is to get a NES emulator running, although the Century Sutra 1688 also retails with a CD containing 1500 games of its own. Add to that a 1.3 MegaPixel camera in the back, and another 0.3 MegaPixel camera in the front, and you've got a $125 gadget that might be worth buying. Here's more pictures, thanks to Frankieman70 for the tip!

04.02.2007 DAEDALUS PSP NINTENDO 64 EMULATOR UPDATE

PSP homebrew coding community continues to put the Wii's Virtual Console to shame, StrmnNrmn's 'Daedalus" Nintendo 64 emulator for the PSP has been updated to version R10, and now can play Super Mario 64 at full speed on the Sony handheld. Here's an outdated list of the games that the Daedalus emulator supports, only 5% of all N64 games is pretty pathetic, but that's still better than the Virtual Console. Not bad for a one man project.

02.22.2007 DAEDALUS R9 NINTENDO 64 EMULATOR FOR PSP

Screw the Virtual Console, here's N64 games on your PSP! Someone by the online name of "gunntims0103" has posted a Nintendo 64 emulator for PSP on the DCEmu forums. Made by StrmnNrmn, the Daedalus R9 version runs faster, has a new user interface, and even includes graphical fixes. This release finally includes audio, although StrmnNrmn makes it clear that the audio support is only at a beta stage for now, so it's disabled by default until you enable it in the pause menu settings. Many ROMs don't work, and there's limited save game support, but if you want to try it, then you can download the files here.

Here's how the control conversion works:

Start                Start
Analogue Stick        Analogue Stick
Dpad                O (Circle) + Dpad
A                    X (Cross)
B                    [] (Square)
Z                    ^ (Triangle)
L Trigger            L Trigger
R Trigger            R Trigger
C buttons            Dpad (Circle unpressed)

And here's a few graphics examples of games that work on the emulator for PSP. Star Fox 64 for PSP would be perfect, but games like Army Men were hard enough to play on the Nintendo 64. So if you have a PSP and try this out, then choose wisely.

01.29.2007 NES GAMES ON XBOX 360 VIA XNA EMULATOR

If you don't have a Nintendo Wii, but still wish to play NES games, then a homemade emulator for Xbox 360's XNA should do the trick. If you own the original games, then sending their ROM files to the SharpNES360\bin\Xbox 360\Debug directory to play them should be legal as long as you're signed up for the $99 a year Creator's Club service. Here are the controls:

  • A = A B = X or B Start = Start Select = Back Up, Down, Left, Right = D-Pad or Left Thumbstick
  • Exit Emulator = RB (Right Shoulder Button) + Back Load Previous Rom = RB + Up or RB + Left Load Next Rom = RB + Down or RB + Right
There's still some bugs that are being worked out, but if you want to read more about the project and give it a try before Nintendo napalms the whole thing, you can keep up with its .
