05.10.2007 GUITAR HERO 80S PLAYLIST PREVIEW

Activision has thirty songs in store for the 80s expansion pack Guitar Hero: Rocks the 80s. We'll get to relive the 80s this summer, but only on PlayStation 2. I'm the first one to condemn Guitar Hero greediness, but why not throw some downloads at the 360? Here's the seven they've announced so far:

  • "I Wanna Rock" (by Twisted Sister)
  • "I Ran" (by Flock of Seagulls)
  • "Round and Round" (as made famous by Ratt)
  • "I Want Candy" (as made famous by Bow Wow Wow)
  • "Metal Health" (as made famous by Quiet Riot)
  • "Holy Diver" (as made famous by Dio)
  • "Heat of the Moment" (as made famous by Asia)
Whenever I was in the car with my parents in the 80s and I heard a cool song on the radio, I'd ask who the band or singer was. It didn't matter if it was a male or female group or singer, for some reason my parents would always think it was Meat Loaf, and that was the answer I would get. Just as you reach into the fridge for two week old leftovers, and are unsure of what primordial ooze you grabbed, but call it meat loaf and microwave it anyways, I've come to know all of 80s music as simply Meat Loaf musical leftovers. Prices haven't been discussed for the Guitar Hero expansion yet, but I can't pass up thirty helpings of Meat Loaf. What other tracks are you expecting to see make the list?

04.27.2007 PHANTASY STAR UNIVERSE EXPANSION

Sega has announced Phantasy Star Universe: Ambition of the Illuminus, an expansion to their PSU game on Xbox 360, PS2, and PC. The original game's single player story was limited to a pre-made character, but the expansion will let you play through the extended story as a customized character. This expansion revolves around the story of Human Fundamentalists (Illuminus) bringing chaos to the Gurhal System, and includes new levels, enemies, bosses, and character class types, with online play costing $9.99 a month, or $49.99 for a six month pass. That's quite the expensive phantasy. When it releases this Fall, Xbox 360 gamers will be able to download it, and PS2 and PC users will have to resort to buying it in stores.

03.29.2007 GUILD WARS EXPANSION AND SEQUEL

NCsoft and ArenaNet have announced their plans for Guild Wars 2, setting the target beta period to begin in the second half of 2008. The game mechanics will resemble the first game, and there will still be no subscription fee to play. An expansion is also on the way, and requires at least one of the previous Prophecies, Factions, Nightfall campaigns to play. Scheduled for the 2007 holiday season, Guild Wars: Eye of the North will have 18 dungeons and caverns to explore, 150 new skills spread across all ten professions, and dozens of new items, weapons, and armor. 01.23.2007 BURNING CRUSADE REACHES 2.4 MILLION SALES

Last week the World of Warcraft expansion Burning Crusade was launched at midnight around the world. It only took two days for the most hardcore of guilds to tear through it, but what about the rest of the players? Of the 8 million worldwide Azeroth addicts, 2.4 million bought the expansion pack on the first day of its release. Blizzard wasn't kidding about the 'world' part of Warcraft - Gears of War has been out for over a month and sold 3 million copies, but Blizzard achieved that in almost one night. Obviously Blizzard is thrilled, but instead of a typical bullshit media comment like 'we are excited, and hope to see more sales,' Blizzard CEO Mike Morhaime fessed up that even they are impressed: "The Burning Crusade has already exceeded even our most ambitious expectations."

2 million of the 8 million total players are gaming from USA, and 1.2 million of them picked up a copy of it launch day, with the another 1.1 million coming from Europe. Shouldn't World of Warcraft be on that best selling games list of 2006 a few posts down the page? Jeez.

01.18.2007 OBLIVION EXPANSION CONFIRMED, DETAILS

Bethesda has officially announced the Oblivion expansion: The Elder Scrolls IV: Shivering Isles. The RPG will be released on both PC and Xbox 360 in Spring, so we shouldn't have to wait much longer to try it out. I'm not a fan of Oblivion from the little I played it, but since the Xbox 360 version will be available for a purchased download on Xbox Live I might give it a try. Bethesda believes that Shivering Isles offers more than 30 hours of new gameplay as you explore the new Shegorath realm in Oblivion. It's no 8 million World of Warcraft, with ritzy midnight launches for an expansion, but Oblivion sold over 3 million copies in 2006 so it's definitely got a lot of fans. Lost Planet just reached 1 million game sales too, for those of you keeping track of the bulge in each company's pants. Here's some of the game features you can expect:

  • See a world created in Sheogorath's own image, one divided between Mania and Dementia and unlike anything you've experienced in Oblivion.
  • Battle the denizens of Shivering Isles, a land filled with hideous insects, Flesh Atronachs, skeletal Shambles, amphibious Grummites, and many more.
  • Find and wield new weapons and armor, or have new ones forged for you by the talented craftsmen of Crucible and Bliss.
  • Explore a bizarre landscape filled with twisting, vast dungeons buried within the roots of the trees themselves.
  • Unravel the mystery surrounding the endless cycle of madness and destruction that threatens to destroy the Shivering Isles.
Screw the mystery, i just want to kill whatever the heck is called a Grummite.

01.17.2007 BURNING CRUSADE PLAYER HITS LEVEL 70

The new World of Warcraft expansion Burning Crusade has only been available for a few days, and already someone has hit the new maximum level 70. Blizzard has promised a new expansion every year from here on out, but it looks like even if they keep their promise it won't be enough to fulfill the most hardcore W.O.W. players out there. Player Gullerbone's character Gawell gets the bragging rights of being the first level 70 in WOW: Burning Crusade, but according to this interview with him, it wasn't easy. On the Archimonde (EU - PvP) server, his entire 40 person Millenium guild played nonstop just to keep his Mage leveling up at the maximum possible rate around the clock. In a game where no ultimate LastBoss exists, we salute you Gullerbone, for beating the shit out of the game instead!

12.14.2006 WOW: BURNING CRUSADE VIDEO UPDATE

You already saw parts of this video earlier this week, but here's the full video in much better quality. We didn't miss much in the beginning, but this version's quality will get World of Warcraft fans even more excited for the Burning Crusade expansion due out in January 2007. From the draenei's purple hammer to the blood elf's magic, the details are so gorgeous. Although I actually question if all of it is CG - some of the backdrops actually look like painting - definitely breathtaking awesome paintings, but I still have a feeling some of the background environments aren't actually CGI. Either way, it looks awesome - this trailer is up there with the Dawn of War trailers in excitement.

10.17.2006 W.O.W Burning Crusade Boss Videos

Those lucky ones that are getting their hands on the W.O.W. expansion Burning Crusade are more than happy to show us some of the bosses from the first few instances. The one on the left is Gargolmar and the one on the right is Nazan. TheLastBoss loves a good boss video, so here's one more for yuh: Omor HD.

10.12.2006 New Burning Crusade Screenshots

World of Warcraft's expansion Burning Crusade looks to be coming along nicely -- I don't know if Blizzard will actually be able to give us a new expansion each year from here on out like they've promised in the past, but what matters for now is that the Burning Crusade expansion isn't far away and it's looking sweet. Here's a whole gallery of new screenshots of what to expect, not much is revealed, but I'm really liking the Outlands pics.
