05.22.2007 WORLD OF WARCRAFT BLACK TEMPLE PATCH

Last week Blizzard did a whole lot of teasing. On top of the StarCraft II news they also showed off this video to announce that a World of Warcraft Black Temple content patch release was nearing. The patch is now live for all of you W.O.W. players to download, here's the brief overview of what's new:

  • The Black Temple, a new 25 man raid dungeon
  • Nether Drakes, new epic flying mounts obtained through solo and small-group play
  • The Ruins of Lordaeron, a new arena for the PvP Arena System
  • Druid epic flight form
  • Three new solo or small-group level-70 areas

If that's not enough information though, Blizzard has a twenty page tome of specific details here. Talk about an overview overkill, you might as well play a MMO text game if you're willing to read all of that.

04.05.2007 WORLD OF WARCRAFT CURSOR HACK

BBC is reporting on a World of Warcraft hack that's slowly rising in numbers online. Hackers were able to exploit a flaw in the cursor code, and accounts getting stolen started to become a popular complaint in late March. To make things worse, hackers started to infect certain sites with the exploit, causing World of Warcraft players browsing the net on Internet Explorer 6 and 7 to occasionally put themselves at risk when they least expected it. Upon further investigation, it seems like the vulnerability was actually in Microsoft's code, and that it was only a problem with people using animated cursors (morons and housewives).

Nevertheless, to help solve the problem, Microsoft released a patch for it on April 3rd, earlier than its usual round of annoying downloads. If you need the Microsoft update, you can download it here from Microsoft. Good luck trying to explain your absence in Azeroth to your guild, I suggest making up an excuse.

11.24.2006 NEVERWINTER NIGHTS 2 V1.03 PATCH RELEASED

Nathaniel Chapman, Assistant Producer at Obsidian Entertainment, wants everyone to know that the new beta version for the Neverwinter Nights v1.03 patch is now out. Here's instructions on how to apply it, and here's additional mirrors for the patch: WVault, WN2 Warcry. There's two limitations to the patch though:

1) This beta patch is currently only compatible with the English version of the game. Localized versions of the patch will be available soon.

2) In order to install the v1.03 Beta Patch, you will need to make sure you are currently running v1.02 of NWN2.

But before you do anything, make sure you back up you "My Documents\Neverwinter Nights 2," just in case installing the beta patch messes up anything. Obsidian is open to all helpful feedback, and hopes to have the final version of the patch available soon, which will support all languages.

11.09.2006 PS3 PATCH ON ACTUAL LAUNCH DAY

Damn, that's gotta be a record. Sony wants the world to know that the PS3 you buy in stores won't exactly be 'finished.' They are hoping that on day one of opening up your new PS3 you'll immediately download an update that will polish off your next generation system, giving it version 1.10 which will unlock all the services on the PlayStation Network for you. Also, Sony is planning an additional update for late November, which is supposed to include a version update for your PSP, with enhanced security features and improvements on the way your PSP connects with your new PS3. This update will hopefully let you download PSP games from the online PlayStation Store, and transfer them straight onto your PSP. Another cool feature, is that PS3s with a wireless LAN adaptor should be able to control their PS3s via their PSP remotely after this second wave of updates. Pretty ritzy Sony, keep it up!
