The PS3 Firmware 1.7 update is finally complete, and the PlayStation classics downloads should be functional now. Here's the official details for today:

  • Rampart Trailer (free): Get a sneak peak at this arcade classic in advance of its re-release on the PLAYSTATION Store.
  • BlackSite Area 51 Trailer (free): BlackSite: Area 51 is a next-generation game that will redefine the first person shooter (FPS) genre using its integrated cutting-edge technology, game design, and unique story-writing.
  • Movie Trailer (free): Catch the trailer for the next chapter in the popular franchise, Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End.
Oh boy, Super Rub a Dub. That should keep us busy until Lair and Heavenly Sword come out in a few months. Right?.... The cover art for Lair looks cooler than I expected though.

01.26.2007 PS3 AND XBOX 360 ONLINE DOWNLOAD UPDATES

Yesterday the Nintendo Wii had more console update details than a Sandra Cisneros novel, and Sony and Microsoft don't want to feel left out.  Here's the new content available on the Xbox 360 Video Marketplace to gamers in America. It's crazy how quickly some of these movies have jumped from theaters to being downloadable:

Skyland (Nicktoons, season one, episode one)
Wild World of Spike
Inconvenient Truth  2007 Academy Award nominated!
Lady in the Water (HD)
Beerfest (HD)
Wickerman (HD)
The Descent (HD)
American Haunting (HD)
See No Evil (HD)
Blair Witch Project (HD)
Requiem for a Dream (HD)
Cecil B. Demented (HD)

And Sony wants to hang with the cool kids too, here's their new PS1 downloads for the PlayStation Store. Each game costs ¥525 (US$4.30), and Crash Bandicoot and Rally Cross are available only in North America, but the following four are just exclusive to Japanese regions:

  • A.I.V. Evolution Global (city railway management from Artdink)
  • Logic Mahjong (a mahjong game by Nippon Ichi)
  • Spectral Force (the first game in Idea Factory's strategy RPG series)
  • Vampire: Legend of the Bloodsuckers (an isometric action-RPG by Artdink)

I haven't seen Requiem for a Dream in a while, I might download that. Here's another true story about my Mormon friend from high school. We used to invite him over all the time on the weekends, but he was afraid to ever leave his house. We called him up every time we had Friday night movie nights at the theater, but he refused to watch any rated R movie due to his religious beliefs. I finally got him to come over one night when we were just playing Super Smash Bros on the 64 and relaxing, but it just so happened to be one of those nights where nothing interesting was on Comedy Central or TBS or Encore, so we turned on some obscure artsy channel that was playing the graphic Requiem for a Dream movie about drug addictions. Right as Cameron rang the doorbell and stepped inside my house for the first time, the infamous "Ass to ass!" butt sex scene with Jennifer Connelly came on screen and Cameron freaked out. Much like the lamp scenes in A Christmas Story, I felt horrified, yet couldn't stop what what happening as Cameron stared on at asscheecks slamming into each other in a tornado of dollar bills. He didn't say a word all night and never came over again until my high school graduation party bonfire year later. Now he's off somewhere in Europe doing missionary work.

I miss all your crazy cafeteria debates about the episode of South Park that targeted your religion. Hope all is well, and that you're having heated Mormon orgies off in Europe somewhere, good luck Cameron.

12.28.2006 TEKKEN 5 UP FOR DOWNLOAD ON PS3

Tekken: Dark Resurrection was released for the PSP this year, but now the official Tekken 5 PS3 game is up for download on the PlayStation Store if you live in Japan. It runs at full 1080p HD at 60 frames per second, and even makes the Tekken series boss character Jinpachi Mishima playable for the first time. The download is 830MB and costs 2000 yen ($16.80) in Japan, but only $125HK ($16.07) in Hong Kong store. Sounds pretty cheap for a game that got amazing PSP reviews, looks like it'll be worth a download as soon as America gets in on the party.
