05.29.2007 SUPER SMASH BROS. BRAWL FINAL SMASH

The Nintendo characters just keep getting more and more evil lately. In Mario Strikers Charged we saw Mario's feet of fury, and it seems like his hands are also wreaking havoc. Earlier this week we were shown a somewhat weak looking gooey bomb item in Super Smash Bros. Brawl, and now Nintendo is revealing their showstopper:

The Final Smash is a secret skill that can be performed but once…and only after obtaining an item called the Smash Ball, which is a precious item, indeed. The basic gist of it? I suppose you could say it’s kind of like a powerful and personalized hammer. (Or maybe not…) You can look forward to experiencing the glowing personality behind each of the many Final Smashes!

[Mario's] explosion launches out and expands vertically as it travels, so in order to inflict the most damage possible on enemies, it’s best to release this from a slight floating or midair position on either the left or right side of the screen. If Mario launches this at you, you’d better flee!

In other words, Brawl will bring those magical Mario Golf clubs onto the battlefield, and let you use each others' heads as golf balls. This should allow them to offer varied visual slaughters, and make up for certain characters' weaknesses by over compensating on the kaboom factor of their final smash attacks. In Melee I was always the one to boldly take on enemies who had hammers, so this doesn't bode well for idiots like me. Any predictions on what other characters' final smash attacks might be? I want to see Pit quote the 300 movie and blot out the sun with raining arrows.

Samus has to drop a Super Bomb. They already bastardized the Screw Attack in the SSB series, I think a super bomb with a radius like one of the super Pokemon (from Melee) with the strenth of a bomb-omb would more than make up for it.

I'm definitely interested in what this could mean for each of the characters. I wonder, what is Snake's? A Metal Gear comes and nukes the level? That would be hilarious, but I know it won't happen.

Link probably does that triforce slashing thing in the video...Samus I would think maybe do a huge super charge shot, maybe go into the hyper phazon mode or whatever from the new corruption game...and kirby would probably do the chef in the cauldron thing in the video as well....other, well I dunno...I just hope Fox's doesnt suck and isn't blaster based...

I had been wondering if those massive attacks they showed off in the early trailers were just eye candy or if they were actually going to make it into the game. I was kind of hoping they wouldn't, but if they're rare enough, it should be okay.

i wonder if the specials that only attack one person (like link's triforce thing) are gonna completely stop gameplay (assuming there's more than the two people playing) because that could get annoying...

Only if it's you it is being used on...otherwise I think I'd welcome the break-getting the chance to watch a rival get his face smashed in whilst deciding what move is best for my own situation....then again-were I about to unleash my own hell upon my enemy, only to have it foiled by something irrelevant to our battle....I'd be pissed.

haha imagine a totally epic onslaught that was in the middle of occuring only to be interrupted and completely foiled by a light jab. annoying.
