06.04.2007 MIDNIGHT MARIO KART INVISIBLE RACE VIDEO

(Click the area above to start video)

Instead of taking the overly comedic kiddy route, this short cinematic went for professionalism and still made me laugh. I love how they tackled the star power item in stop motion animation. Made by a group of college students in thirteen nights of filming, this video is one of ten short films competing in a Harley Davidson contest at this year's UCSB Department of Film and Media Studies video project. If you enjoyed the invisible trip down Rainbow Road, take the time to vote for them here. You don't need to make an account or sign up for anything, it just takes one simple click to support some fellow gamers.

06.01.2007 RUMOR: MARIO KART WII REVEALED AT E3

Damn you, Nintendo. Just as I had started to get tired of your addictive Mario Kart games, you give us a wacky Wiimote that will probably reinvent the wheel for another year of multiplayer mayhem. According to Jeux-France, Nintendo plans on revealing the next Mario Kart game for the Wii at the upcoming E3 event. The rumors also point to Nintendo finalizing the release dates for Super Smash Bros. Brawl and Super Mario Galaxy, and hopefully presenting plenty of videos for each game as well. In closing, the Nintendo rumor mentioned a "large revelation on the Hardware level," which some are already guessing to be a hidden audio translator chip in the back of the Wiimotes.

04.26.2007 MARIO KART R/C RACER VIDEO

Playing Mario Kart on the TV is out of style, the new cool thing to do is racing real Mario racers around in real life. When I watched the video I figured the sound effects were added in afterwards, but the R/C racer actually comes with them built in. Here's the specifics:

  • Large Size R/C Mario Kart Racer
  • Nintendo GameCube Style Remote Control
  • Five function control : Right, Left, Forward, Reverse and Turbo
  • Digitized Sounds from the Game
  • 12" Long
  • Requires 1 9V Battery and 8 AA Batteries (not included)

I completely forgot about R/C racers until a week ago when the shitty weather in Pittsburgh disappeared. It's like my neighbors had five kids over Winter break, and all of a sudden a gang of R/C racers is outside my window every morning tearing up the town. They don't even go to school, they just play with their futuristic R/C racers that never need new batteries. And when the sun sets, instead of selling crack on the street corner like their older brothers, they go out for night races. What has America come to? The birds even moved away because it was drowning out their incessant afternoon bitching, and ruining their chances of mating this Spring. I was a few days away from calling the EPA on these assholes, but now I've found a new solution. I'll just beat them at their own game. You can order one for yourself here, $50 seems like a reasonable price for terrorizing the innocent youth in my neighborhood. Now someone show me where I can buy dynamite.

04.12.2007 SAN FRANCISCO MARIO KART RACERS

B.Y.O.B. stands for Bring Your Own Beer, so when I read B.Y.O.B.W. I assumed it meant Bring Your Own Beer and Weed, but it turns out I underestimated how much fun they have every year in San Francisco on that famous curvy road. Over a thousand people showed up for this year's crazy Bring Your Own Big Wheel event on Lombard Street, and competing in one of the four massive races was Mario and Luigi putting their Karting skills to use. Think of it as the real life equivalent of Rainbow Road considering how many absurd looking contestants there were, you can check out more photos of the event here. Next year I'll bring my own beer anyways, and drive down the road drunk wearing a Bowser costume. There's few things in life more fun than gamer genocide, that's what last bosses are all about.

01.30.2007 MARIO KART 64 VIRTUAL CONSOLE SPEED GLITCH

It sounds like the players don't even know why it happens, but when they play the Moo Moo Farm race track level on Mario Kart 64 with just three people, the Wii Virtual Console glitches and gives them all insane speed throughout almost the entire race. This glitch alone might make this game download be worth it for some of you. I'm downloading the game right now, has anyone else experienced any weird glitches on the Virtual Console recently? I'm not a big fan of tweaking with the classics when you offer them for downloads in the future, but I think the whole game should be able to be played at this pace.

Also, how do you say Mario? If there's one thing that bothers me it's when people pronounce Mario as "Marry-oh." It's "Mar-ee-oh", end of story.
