06.04.2007 MIDNIGHT MARIO KART INVISIBLE RACE VIDEO

(Click the area above to start video)

Instead of taking the overly comedic kiddy route, this short cinematic went for professionalism and still made me laugh. I love how they tackled the star power item in stop motion animation. Made by a group of college students in thirteen nights of filming, this video is one of ten short films competing in a Harley Davidson contest at this year's UCSB Department of Film and Media Studies video project. If you enjoyed the invisible trip down Rainbow Road, take the time to vote for them here. You don't need to make an account or sign up for anything, it just takes one simple click to support some fellow gamers.

06.01.2007 HISTORY OF VIDEO GAMES IN FOUR MINUTES

(Click the area above to start video)

By now you guys should know I'll post anything that involves Bubble Bobble in any way, and it gets a shout out in this montage of the most memorable video games in the history of the industry. Spanning all genres of gameplay from 1972 to 2007, and pulling from several consoles and handhelds, there's easily a hundred different games that were included in the four minute video. So take out your notebooks and get ready to jot down a few time markers of games you don't recognize but want to know more about, and try to help each other figure out which games were which. The one that caught my eye was Out Of This World at 1:40 into the video. It always looked like an intriguing Super Nintendo game to me, but I never got around to playing it. Are there any games you didn't see that you think deserve to be on the list?

06.01.2007 THE LAST REMNANT VIDEO ON SPIKE TV TONIGHT

Last month we had a lot of Square Enix news, but very little video to go along with that was shown at the Square Enix Party. It wasn't until just a few days ago that we finally got to see the Final Fantasy IV cinematic DS trailer, and a week before that the Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: Crystal Bearers Wii trailer. Spike TV has another video for us to finally get a peek at -- late tonight on Game Head, at 1AM, they'll be showing the video preview for The Last Remnant that was shown previously at the Square Enix Party.

With a combat system altogether different than what Square Enix has attempted before, it will be fun to see the battle tactics in action. The Last Remnant still doesn't have a target release date yet, although it will be released in America and Japan simultaneously when it's ready to be shipped.

05.31.2007 MICHAEL JACKSON'S PUNCH-OUT!! VIDEO

The BBPS found this fake Punch-Out! video of Michael Jackson versus Macaulay Culkin in a battle I'm glad I've never played. Fighting as Little Macaulay instead of Little Mac, and changing the last boss from Mike Tyson to Michael Jackson, makes this one of the most disturbing parodies I've ever seen. I was scared for Macaulay's safety against the Jester Molester formerly known as the King of Pop, but the Home Alone kid puts up a good fight. Thanks go to Mike L. Mayfield, whose 2D animations make me never want to play 8-bit boxing ever again.

05.30.2007 VIDEO: TOP TEN DOUCHEBAGS OF GAMING

ScrewAttack is back with another Top 10 list for us. This time they focus on the biggest video game douchebags, and you should immediately know exactly who the top two rankers are. Thankfully, they don't disappoint at the end, here's their full list:

  • 10. Wario
  • 9. Superman
  • 8. Michael Jackson
  • 7. Dr. Robotnik
  • 6. Ruffians
  • 5. The Burger King
  • 4. Bowser
  • 3. Psycho Mantis
  • 2. Jack Thompson
  • 1. The Duck Hunt Dog

The Burger King was a nice addition to a mostly predictable list. No matter how much nonsense comes from Jack Thompson's mouth, he'll never compare to the canine we've all wanted to kill at one point in our lives. Who would you add to the list?

05.29.2007 STREET FAMILY GUY: PETER GRIFFIN VS SAKURA

We've seen Ken versus Ryu several times, and we've even seen Ryu versus Scorpion. But nothing could prepare us for Peter Griffin versus Sakura. Not even this. I won't spoil the outcome, but the ending is great. (Click on the picture to start the fight.)

05.29.2007 BIOSHOCK GAMEPLAY VIDEO AND PICTURES

This new video shows us the many ways to torture the other people inhabiting the underwater city in BioShock. Had you been wondering how to electrocute  a nurse or how many hits to the head wit ha wrench it takes to kill a janitor, this videos of short clips edited together has examples for every bloody and fiery death in the game. I like how you can use wet spots in a level to electrocute several seemingly harmless enemies all at once. If the goal of Irrational Games is to make us feel like an aquatic asshole before even playing their game, they're doing a great job. The flooding levels look intense though, I'll kill as many big daddies as it takes to beat this game when it comes out in August for Xbox 360. For more brutal imagery, check out the new pictures below.

05.28.2007 NINJA GAIDEN: SIGMA BURNING VILLAGE VIDEO

Ninja Gaiden: Sigma is here to once again deliver great graphics in this PS3 gameplay video. It starts strong with Ryu Hayabusa surrounded by burning walls and fiery floors as he fights several enemies. Heads fall and fireballs fill the rooms, forcing the battle outdoors where a boss awaits. Dramatic scenes filled with flames like this always remind me of the infamous Sephiroth cinema in Final Fantasy VII. It's great to look back and see how far graphics and gameplay have come in just a decade.

I'm headed off to a party now, so posts will continue later tonight when I return. Have fun everybody, and stay safe.

05.28.2007 MEMORIAL DAY: MOST MEMORABLE KILL?

We've seen some cool tricks and glitches in Halo 3 already, and now we've got an impressive kill to add to the list of things to try. AssassinSniper managed to take out an approaching enemy banshee in the sky by easily tossing a trip mine into a man cannon to send it up in air. With just the right timing he pulled off the fireworks display for the memorable kill.

I hope everyone has fun with their friends and family today, anyone have any big gaming plans? In honor of Memorial Day and all the fallen soldiers in the past, let's share our most memorable gaming victories. Was it setting a Mario Party mini-game record or lapping your friend in Mario Kart? Perhaps a GoldenEye 64 story involving proximity mines and rockets? Maybe a Killtacular in Halo 2 or a huge guild raid in World of Warcraft? I've got countless crazy Super Smash Bros. stories, but they're all overshadowed by something my friend pulled off in Counter-Strike.

My friend was running through the de_dust map in the wide tunnel low passage area at the bottom of the map, the place with boxes all around and an overhang spot for snipers to hide at the end of the low path. Expecting an enemy to peak its head over the overhang at the end of the path, he aimed upwards ready to shoot, but instead, the enemy dropped down from the opposite overhang, exposing his feet first from above as he fell down with his back turned to my friend. He got ready to shoot, aimed for the falling head, and pulled the trigger at the exact moment that someone popped out from behind a box in front of him, which was also the same moment that sniper he was originally looking for popped his head up from his hiding spot. Trigger finger. One shot. Three kills. Audio goes crazy with celebrations filled with swearing.

What are some of your most memorable gaming victories?

05.25.2007 SCARFACE WII GAMEPLAY VIDEO

Scarface: The World is Yours has already sold 1.5 million copies worldwide on other platforms, and is coming to the Wii soon with a whole new layout of controls. Playing as the ruthless Tony Montana from the film, you're challenged to survive the climactic mansion shootout for the movie, and then continue your crime and murder spree throughout all of Miami, seeking revenge on everyone who threatens your evil empire. The video aboves has the Wiimote controls displayed over the game footage, and shows how graphic the game's weapons and taunt system is for the Nintendo console. A mini Grand Theft Auto that lets you dismember bodies is as good as any other game out for the Wii yet. A release date hasn't been confirmed, although it's suspected to come out in mid June.
