05.17.2007 PAIN PS3 GAMEPLAY VIDEO
PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 have been focusing on the wrong thing all along. Stranglehold lets you destroy the environments, and Lost Odyssey declares you an indestructible god ready to take on entire armies in a single battle. But is that what we really want? Yes, of course we do, but it's good to see someone think outside the boundaries, and Pain is a game all about finding those boundaries. As you can see in the video above, the point of the game is to see just how much pain you can possibly make the main character endure.
The game starts in a downtown level with a human-sized catapult in the center of the city, and Idol Minds leaves the rest up to you. There's nine different modes of gameplay and you can even record your most ravaging routes and send the videos to your friends online. An amusement park level is also planned and my head's already thinking of all the Roller Coaster Tycoon slaughter possibilities. The cartoony 3D geometry and graphics should make the levels easy to pump out, so hopefully after it releases this Fall on the PlayStation Network we'll get new level downloads every few months. Jack Thompson's been calling games murder simulators in the past few years, and finally we have a suicide simulator to add to the list.
