05.11.2007 BUNGIE HALO 3 XBOX 360 SELLS FOR $24,300

TheBBPS found this Make-A-Wish charity eBay auction called Konsoles for Kids. One word short of a racist alliteration acronym, here are its details:

To celebrate the Xbox 360 console's first birthday in Australia, the Xbox Australia team has joined forces with an array of celebrities to raise money for the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Australia by auctioning off celebrity autographed Xbox 360 consoles. This is a 1-of-a-kind customised Xbox 360 console personally autographed by Bungie, creators of the Halo trilogy. You will not find another like it in the world.

The lucky winner of the auction will receive the Xbox 360 system which includes the customised celebrity Xbox 360 console (airbrushed with portrait image and personally signed by Bungie, creators of the Halo trilogy), an Xbox 360 wireless controller, an Xbox 360 20 gig hard-drive, an Xbox 360 Media Remote and Xbox Live Silver membership. Total retail value is $649.00.

Even though 100% of the $24,300 auction will go to the Make-A-Wish foundation in Australia, I can't help but get a little pissed that someone would pay so much for a Xbox 360. Makes me wonder how much an autographed Final Fantasy XIII themed PS3 might go for.

05.01.2007 HOW MUCH IS CHRONO TRIGGER WORTH? $758.

TechEBlog spotted this eBay auction, where an an unopened Chrono Trigger Super Nintendo game sold for $758. Buying Chrono Trigger at any affordable price is well worth it just to play through the game, it was one of the first video games to include multiple endings and a story driven by character development. I never thought a once easily available Super Nintendo game would go for so much though. Make sure you keep your flea market fingers and bargain bin eyes on the look out for an unopened copy of this classic.

04.18.2007 CHANCE TO BUY XBOX 360 ELITE ON EBAY NOW

There's plenty of convincing pictures to suggest it's no scam, it looks like Target has broken the street date of the Xbox 360 Elite that's scheduled for an April 29th release in stores. With the PS3 and 360 having been out for months already I don't see the bids going crazy, although I never thought an ugly red PS3 would sell for $12,100 either. The $479.99 console is currently at $600 on eBay, but if you're over anxious for the Elite 360 you might as well check out your local Target first to see if they're also pissing off Microsoft.

03.16.2007 LEGEND OF ZELDA NINTENDO WII MOD

I bought an NES skin for my Wii from here for fifteen bucks and I love it, but this Wii altering is a complete mod that must have taken a week or more to make. Jeremy painted the Wii base the same hue of gold as the limited edition Ocarina of Time Nintendo 64 cartridge, and the Hyrule shield and Master Sword come from the special edition Zelda soundtrack. Although the true geek factor kicks in when you plug it in and see the white LEDs illuminate from behind the Triforce and shield. And while you're sitting through loading times you can even slide out the sword and use it to scratch your back.

Right now the eBay auction has it priced at 385 dollars, but there's still 9 days left of bidding. Here's the eBay auction (caution - music plays on the page), and below are more pictures of the paint job and LEDs.

02.19.2007 HALO 3 INFO AND HALO 4 LIES

If Master Chief was Arnold Schwarzenegger, then Jamie Lee Curtis would be Cortana - yep - I'm talking about True Lies. First up is some truth - Bungie has released even more information about Halo 3 on their site, including new Halo 3 wallpaper downloads, the tentative button controls layout, funny fan art, and hints at what's to come soon. They're saying that the Halo 3 advertising campaign is set to start soon, so we should have more screenshots and videos coming in the next month - they've already announced that beta testing will contain a few surprises, and that they won't try to hinder players from spreading pictures of their experiences.

Now for the lies. According to an 'official' eBay auction run by Bungie (who just signed up for eBay a few weeks ago . . hmm), Halo 4 is on the way as well. And people are actually taking it seriously. Sigh.

02.01.2007 EVERY NES GAME ON EBAY SALE UPDATE

Last week I found an eBay auction that had every NES game and accessory ever made for sale, and at the time it was going for just $1,675. The 670 game auction still has two days left and its highest bid has already reached over $21,000. Just when you thought modern day gaming was getting expensive, NES has returned to reclaim its title. How much further do you think this will go before the auction ends? I'm guessing it won't top $27,000. And how the hell do you ship something this big over eBay? In a Nintendo bus?

01.26.2007 EBAY CRACKS DOWN ON VIRTUAL MARKETS

People have been selling virtual items on eBay for years, and now they're being forced to stop whether they want to break the rules or not. Real money transfers (RMT) for these virtual items have been a growing concern in recent years, and eBay is finally taking official action. Regardless of what type of game, or how large the video game is in its user base, eBay is now delisting everything from Ultima Online items to World of Warcraft character accounts for sale, and even online Neopet points. When asked about this decision, the eBay spokesperson Hani Durzy confirmed to Slashdot that "sellers must own the intellectual property being sold."

There's currently still a lot of these virtual items up for sale on eBay though, so they don't seem to be too dedicated to the effort yet. I suspect that this will be similar to how NSFW videos on YouTube are handled - existing only for a day or two before being sniped. If that's the case then the most auctions probably wouldn't have enough time to complete and make the financial transactions finalized. It will be interesting to see how well eBay can deal with this now that they've officially declared war.

01.26.2007 EVERY NES GAME EVER MADE ON SALE

Well it might not be every game, but I'm not willing to check their 670 NES game list. It's currently going for $1,675 on eBay, and even comes with every NES accessory, including the Game Genie and a Power Glove. They should make a console where you can just download all the old games . . oh wait. Is the Virtual Console moving slow enough each week to justify this purchase? The collector's value has got to be worth something, but then again, the seller obviously didn't think so. One of the things I've debated with friends before is whether or not NES games will ever actually be a lucrative investment. Being able to eventually download the hard to find original Earthbound will hurt the value of the original cartridges according to some people, but I still think the Virtual Console won't wreak havoc on anyone's game collection prices in the long run.

01.03.2007 MORE HOMEMADE COLORED PS3S ON THE WAY

Remember last week when a homemade white PS3 went for $1500 on eBay? Yah you did - I passed you the tissues once it sold and we shared our failed PS3 eBay stories for hours into the night. They're such bullies over on PCN, so inconsiderate:

"After seeing how our White PS3 sold on ebay, PCN got the idea to start producing its own line of colors for the Playstation 3. We will be working on a silver model in the coming weeks and we have decided to make a more unique looking PS3 as well. Introducing the world's first Red Playstation 3 (design only). This will be the 3rd color we will be making, so stay tuned to see some exciting PS3's appear on the net for sale!"

Sticks and stones can break my bones, but PS3 can burn down homes - I hope their plans go up in smoke! Although that red PS3 does looks sexy. Wait, no it doesn't, it just reminds me of how much I hate the Spiderman font. What must I do to make my PS3 wanted. There's no way she could pull off anorexia - when I told her how friends her age are showing off their grills, she gained 20 GBs in one week. What a fatty.

12.26.2006 WHITE PS3 GOES FOR $1500 ON EBAY

Man did the holidays take their toll on me, I'm still tired as hell. I just woke up to someone online telling me how to finally get rid of my PS3 - paint it. This PS3 and controller were ripped apart, painted white, and reassembled again to be put on eBay. $1,500 for something that otherwise was barely pulling profits anymore isn't bad at all. Should I paint mine green? red? Screw it I'll just open it and play it. If you're interested in painting your PS3 for fun or for sales reasons, you can read about the process here, with plenty of step by step provided to help.
