05.29.2007 STREET FAMILY GUY: PETER GRIFFIN VS SAKURA

We've seen Ken versus Ryu several times, and we've even seen Ryu versus Scorpion. But nothing could prepare us for Peter Griffin versus Sakura. Not even this. I won't spoil the outcome, but the ending is great. (Click on the picture to start the fight.)

02.12.2007 RYU VERSUS KEN STAGE FIGHTS

Today's hot video is the "Real Street Fighter" video seen above, featuring Ryu beating the shit out of Ken on stage. Even though it's not any where near as cool as Ryu vs Scorpion, it's done well, with kids holding up the health bar in the background, and guys dressed in black moving the Hadouken attacks across the stage for them. I think the much more nerdier video below is more entertaining though. It's another stage fight, but it's about Ken and Ryu learning how to do the Hadouken move for the first time, and their master's reluctance to give them the move they'll use way to much in the future. There's a few geeks in the audience that try to get a slow clap started one too many times, but it's still a great stage performance to bring back some bad fighting memories. Hopefully Street Fighter: The Later Years part four will be out soon.

02.01.2007 JACKIE CHAN STREET FIGHTER CLASSIC

Jackie Chan's 1993 City Hunter film features a single Street Fighter battle that's better than the entire Street Fighter movie. Seeing Jackie Chan fight as Chun-Li just never gets old.

01.26.2007 RYU VS SCORPION BATTLE TO THE DEATH

This video is a classic combat showdown where Mortal Kombat's Scorpion tries to force a fatality on the legendary Street Fighter Ryu. It goes way above and beyond what you expect to see - using 4 straight minutes of nonstop 2D animation annihilation, its sound effects and choreography put Xiao Xiao and every other 2D battle to shame. Fought to the awesome movie music of E.S. Posthumus's song "Pompeii," the combat crosses several levels as Scorpion sends a dozen "Get over here!" spear attacks at a time towards Ryu. Using Ryu's body as a yo-yo, Scorpion takes the early lead until Ryu finally breaks free and uses the spear string as a leash to throw the masked man around. Harnessing all of his hadouken skills, Ryu makes a comeback, but is it enough? The ending starts to disappoint, but has a fulfilling final outcome after just one contender is left standing.

12.22.2006 STREET FIGHTER: THE LATER YEARS - PART THREE

(Click in the black area above to play the video)

CollegeHumor just released another video in their Street Fighter: The Later Years drama series, which reunites the retired gaming heroes. Last time on part two, we saw Zangrief and Dhalsim hunt down M. Bison, Sagat, and Ryu, and were even given a clue for which characters would make an appearance in this episode. The readers were right, and you can expect to see Blanka and E. Honda in this one. Vega also plays a strong role in this episode, but I won't ruin any of the jokes. There's much better special effects in this one than the last episode, and it's much longer too. Can't wait to see how they cast Chun Li in episode four. Any predictions for what's to come?

11.28.2006 STREET FIGHTER: THE LATER YEARS - PART TWO

(Click the black area above to play video)

CollegeHumor has finally released part two of their Street Fighter: The Later Years video series that follows the reunion of the retired gaming heroes. In episode two Zangrief and Dhalsim hunt down M. Bison and meet the ferocious Sagat and infomercial Ryu along the way. Stay tuned for part three where we meet two more of the crew -- if they manage to get Chun Li on the show without including saggy tits, then Street Fighter: The Later Years might replace Heroes as my current favorite TV show. I'm really curious to see how they cast a geezer version of Blanka.

10.30.2006 ANOTHER STREET FIGHTER MOVIE

Movies, movies, movies. Seems to be the theme of today's video game news. We all had our hearts set on a Halo movie, and are unsure how long it will take to see that come to fruition. But besides the newly announced Oddworld movie Citizen Siege, we now have another Street Fighter movie on out hands -- our ancient and blistered gaming hands, which are partly a result of the game this movie is based on. The exact storyline is still more secret than Kaz Hirai's salary, but it is known that it will be mainly based on the character Chun Li (no complaints here!). The movie is also set for a release in 2008, which just happens to be the 20th anniversary of the game franchise. If the movie is anywhere as cool as the Zangief janitor short video, I'm the film will be gold.
