01.05.2007 THEME OF THE WEEK: WII BOREDOM AND PAIN

The Nintendo Wii wins the Theme of the Week post this time around, first let's do some quick review before getting to the new gaming news:

And here's what is supposed to be what the game cover of Mario Party 8 on the Wii will look like - don't forget to watch what its Wiimote gameplay will look like.

Also, for you nitpicky gamers, as you can see in the image above, the Wii and Gamecube have been compared stat for stat.

And here's some brand new Metroid Prime 3: Corruption details for the highly anticipated Wii game. Nintendo recently held an invite event for the game that left people walking out of the get together spouting off that Metroid Prime 3 "looks better than Halo 2 did on the Xbox." Notice they didn't say Xbox 360, but that's still impressive. However, they did just walk out of a Nintendo invite event, we know how the industry loves to coerce news sites. But they also offered some actual descriptions of what to expect:

"Corruption takes full advantage of the first-person perspective to make you part of the action. There’s also a new hyper mode in which Samus can fill up her phazon supply to a certain point to push her into a heightened period of speed and power. Push the phazon limit too far and it will overload her armor and you’ll be seeing a game over screen. Finally, word is that at long last Samus’ ship will be used during gameplay, an intriguing twist that should cause the saliva glands of Metroid fans to work overtime."

The reward/penalize setup for the phazon limit sounds cool - and whether you're a Nintendo fanboy or not - riding Samus's ship should be awesome. In today's shooter game obsessed world, I can see Metroid Prime 3's sales competing well with even Mario Galaxy. These Wii games need to get released soon, the next 6 months look pretty dry.

12.01.2006 THEME OF THE WEEK: MII MADNESS

Each Friday I'll be taking a look back over the past week and figuring out the recent trend in gaming news. This week's theme topic is easy to choose thanks to the recent Nintendo Wii launch - this week's theme is by far the Nintendo Miis. I was disappointed that the actual mii maker didn't allow for hermaphrodite miis, but the celebrity miis (thanks Teddy!) were still fun to look at. On an equally comical but more artistic level, there was also the Big Lebowski mii video, and my all time favorite mii video: Stephen Colbert punching out a congress woman. I'm sure funny miis will continue to pop up, and hopefully plenty more mii machinima videos too. If you wanna get started on a gang of famous Miis like Ghandi, Donald Trump, Nintendo's Reggie, Conan O'Brien, and Jesus, Marilyn Manson, and our favorite, Jack Thompson, then here's a video from GameVideos to get you started.

11.10.2006 TLB THEME OF THE WEEK: ZURU ZURU

I present you with TheLastBoss's first weekly themed post: Theme of the Week. Theme on Theme action baby. Every week there seems to oddly be a new trend in gaming. Whether it 's a gamer fashion fad, industry bullshit, a certain console that's kicking more ass than the rest, or something crazy that all of Japan is doing, it never stops. So once a week I'll randomly be hitting you with a new trend picking up popularity. What gets the award for this week in November? Industry delay bullshit FTW!

Remember when you illegally downloaded Final Fantasy Advent Children and subtitled your way through it in awe, as if you yourself were a part of the Japanese current entertainment culture? I remember the most awkward part of the movie was the translated clip seen above - when Tifa said Zuru Zuru a few times, the subtitles got a little confused, and Cloud kept looking like a depressed bitch. Well Dilly Dally Shilly Shally is the theme of this week by far - we just found out Burning Crusade's release date and thought we wouldn't see anymore depressing delays for a while. Surprise fuckers - not only have a few PS3 sports games been delayed, Wii's Elebits game been delayed, and Oblivion for PS3 been delayed, but now Half Life 2: Episode 2 joins the ranks. Damn you industry for bringing out the worst in Advent Children.

Hopefully next week's theme won't be so retrosexual. Any suggestions for other weekly article additions to the site?
